Immigrant Social Services, Inc.
is a non-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, founded in 1972 to serve new immigrants in Manhattan's Chinatown/Lower East Side. Our mission is to improve the conditions and promote the welfare of immigrant families living in the Greater Chinatown community of New York.
ISS offers an extensive after-school program to approximately 800 Lower East Side children, an academic and career advancement program for immigrant youth, an educational and recreational arts and athletic program for youth, a drug prevention program, and children and family counseling services.
ISS provides the following services:
1) Educational opportunities and community advocacy work
2) Addresses adjustment difficulties of immigrant youth and families
3) Affirms immigrants cultural identities and fosters pride in their heritage
4) Promotes integration in mainstream American society
